Studio HBA, a division of Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA), has revealed its design of Hyatt Centric Mountain View in Mountain View, California. Drawing inspiration from the ingenuity of Silicon Valley and the magnificence of the Santa Cruz Mountains, the 167-room hotel responds to its surroundings with tech-forward design elements featured from artwork to lighting.

“We were equally inspired and challenged to cultivate a space that uses technology to connect individuals with one another as well as the outside world. Therefore, we featured nuances such as the large-scale art installation depicting the periodic table symbol for Silicon Valley, and a full-height backlit image of the Santa Cruz Mountains to pay homage to the innovators of Silicon Valley against the backdrop of nature,” says HBA principal designer David Dunphy.

Set against a backdrop inspired by the regional forestry, the modules of the front desk recall the valleys of the mountains, while full-height backlit perforated metal panels are flanked by concrete pilasters spreading across the floors. The lobby is anchored by a freestanding bar and a modular wood display wall, which totals the length of the sunken corner lounge.

Also accented by metal screens and suspended light fixtures, the communal areas further complement the steel beam-edged ceiling above the bar. The loft-like onsite restaurant is adorned with black brick accent walls and cobalt blue tiling. In addition, tobacco-toned fabrics are paired with walnut- and caramel-colored leathers to support the warm environment based on woody materials.

Illustrating the guestroom corridors are large woodland graphics, while hardwood floors are accented with area rugs inspired by intricate tile patterns. The wallcovering at the guestrooms echo the woven linens and allow backlit headboards to fully immerse guests in a locally inspired ambiance.
