MY HOUSE IDEA: Cosmopolitan air inspires Manhattan apartment decor

Just one block away from Central Park and close to Lincoln Center, this 150 m² apartment is located in one of New York’s most coveted addresses. Renovated and decorated by one of the most renowned interior designers in Brazil, Marília Veiga, this property was designed for a couple of Brazilians who frequently travel to the most cosmopolitan city in the world. The about 30 years old apartment was obsolete, with dark bases and totally outdated decor. The client’s request was a total redesign, with integration and a clean and contemporary language. A striking feature of the interior designer’s work, and very present in this project, is to bring contemporaneity with the potential to resist time. “For this, in details, we bet on a well-dosed mix of classic languages, but always up to date.”
The professional’s first step was to propose a new layout for the social area, leaving it with a fresh and invigorated air. “We changed all the coverings and a search for solutions was necessary, as, for example, when we came across an air conditioning system that could not be replaced and, then, we made a large bench near the windows that – combined with the joinery – it made the place more spacious and very practical ”, he says. The dark Corian top, combined with lighter woods, integrates living with kitchen, giving spaces continuity.
In order to give versatility to plant, the dining table, which has a bold pendant in a sculptural geometric shape by Flos brand, was placed in a noble and privileged part of the room, which has an impressive view of the city. “This is the main change in relation to the original project”, highlights the professional.
The counter with cabinets that comes from social area, leads to kitchen, integrating both spaces and providing a lot of functionality, since it allows objects and utensils storage, helping to control the mess. The kitchen also gained a new layout, since it was initially closed.
The colors form a neutral base, leaving strongest tones on the armchair, for decorative elements and works of art that includes Miró, Calder, among others from the family’s private collection. “In terms of colors, we always use a neutral base, leaving striking tones for objects and decorative elements in general, but always dosing and running away from randomness”, explains Marília.
Above the sofa, in living room, a photograph collection of the family`s matriarch, a renowned photographer, was hung.
The property has a living room, dining room and kitchen, which have been integrated, and 3 bedrooms, one of which is a suite.
